FROM NEW KID IN BULAWAYO TO BOSSO MAINSTAY: LUCKMORE MUTUMBI, S RISE TO FIRST TEAM

by Sports Grind Africa

When Luckmore Mutumbi arrived in Bulawayo in 2022 to join Highlanders, he was stepping into a new city, a new language and a completely new environment.Adjusting was not easy, but he found family in football.

“I was received by McKinnon and Mason Mushore in their home,” Mutumbi says. “They really helped me settle. Even after they left Highlanders, I was still staying where they stayed.”

That stability off the pitch allowed him to focus on his growth on it. And behind his development was Bosso90 head coach Melusi “Mabaleka” Sibanda, who kept pushing him.

Mutumbi credits Sibanda for believing in him and demanding more, until he finally made the step up to the first team in 2025.The left back has not looked back since. He played 23 games last season and has already played 9 games for Bosso this season, becoming one of the team’s most important players.

Part of his growth has been learning from those ahead of him. Sharing the left side with an experienced player like Kudakwashe Mahachi has been invaluable.”Sharing a position with an experienced player like Mahachi helps me to improve,” he said. Now established, Mutumbi wants more.

“I want to play as many games as possible and market myself, and also help the team to achieve trophies.”

From adapting to a new city to holding down a starting spot at the country’s biggest club – the 24-year-old has earned his place at Bosso.
