Zimbabwe U18 Women Bow Out Of World Aquatics Championships With Valuable Experience

Zimbabwe’s U18 Women’s Water Polo team has concluded its campaign at the 2026 U18 Women World Aquatic Championships, gaining invaluable international exposure despite recording no wins in the tournament.
The young team faced six matches against some of the world’s top water polo nations, ending with defeats to South Africa, Israel, Serbia, Colombia, Germany and Malta.
The campaign opened on 16 August with a 13-6 loss to regional rivals South Africa. The team then fell 19-5 to Israel a day later, before suffering a 21-1 defeat at the hands of European powerhouse Serbia on 19 August.
Zimbabwe showed fight in subsequent matches, scoring 8 goals in a 17-8 loss to Colombia on 20 August. They followed that with a 18-4 result against Germany on 21 August, before closing out the tournament on 23 August with a 18-9 defeat to Malta.
While the scorelines were tough, officials and supporters have praised the squad for representing the country on the global stage and for the experience gained against higher-ranked opposition.
“Representing Zimbabwe at this level is already a win,” The girls have gained massive experience and exposure that will serve them well going forward.”
The tournament marks an important step in the development of water polo in Zimbabwe, with hopes that the lessons learned will help grow the sport locally.
The team returns home with heads held high, having flown the national flag in a competition featuring the best U18 talent in the world.
